Do people drink beer to get drunk or for the taste?

It tastes like poop to me, i drink good tasting stuff like smirnoff. I just cant stand beer, is it an acquired taste? Do people drink it to be cool or to for the taste and to get drunk?

    Depends. People I know drink it because it goes with a meal and it’s enjoyable.
    People don’t like getting drunk on purpose.

    I used to drink beer but it gives me a hangover for days. I think they drink it because its cheaper then harder liquor.

    I like the taste of beer, especially with certain kinds of food like Mexican food, Chinese and Pizza…the buzz is good too. I don’t mind it a bit.

    i hate beer or anything alcoholic. i have never tasted it in my life and i do not plan on drinking. i plan to live long and strong.

    I have aquired the taste for beer.Younger folks tend not to like it.The best part about it is you can control the buzz or get plain sh*t faced.

    I only drink to get drunk,the beer may be smooth ,but I like to get fucked up. If any missspellings are here it is because I am living it up on Grolsch flip tops. Gotta love the beer.

    I think it is the best tasting beverage in the world, and I like a bit of alcohol too.

    My ancestry is Irish and German, so I was genetically destined to like beer.

    I love beer of all kinds. It’s funny…I can taste all the small variations. But I have tried to study wines and they all pretty much taste the same to me.

    It must be dependent on one’s taste. I think it would be much more sophisticated and “cool” to be educated on wine but here I am…relegated to beer.

    Most beer is swill.

    A good beer does NOT need to be cold to taste good. Yes, most beer requires and acquired taste because they, for the most part, really don’t taste that great. Real beer will tast good at room temperature. Get a REAL german beer, not the crap they try to pass off as German, but the stuff THEY drink….they drink it chilled, not cold

    As for drinking to get drunk or for the taste? I like the taste of a good beer after a hard day. I don’t drink to get drunk. Alcoholics (admitted acloholic or not) will drink til they fall over.

    Smirnoff tastes like flavored gasoline to me. I like to drink beer, but not very much. Both hard liquor and beer are an acquired taste. People who drink to get drunk are having problems with their present mental state, and with the conversation that they are having with their self. Do not blame drunkenness on the booze, but on the boozer!
    By the way, how do you know what poop tastes like anyway?

    More than likely its both reasons. at least i hope so. I cannot stand the taste of beer and it smells like urine. I think a lot of it is for the coolness factor. Kind of like those people that will eat an entire onion just like it was as apple or something…they always think they are soo cool….I would rather drink something that tastes good. but most guys will get teased if they drink anything like smirnoff ( so just say youre the D.D.), Im not sure why….it tastes good and gets you drunk, whats wrong with that?? But I only drink Captain/Cokes anyways.

    I believe it’s DEFINITELY an acquired taste. I hate beer myself and prefer the hard alcohol and yummie stuff but when I go to parties, beer seems to be the only thing going around. I like to be apart of the social-ness of the drunk/buzzed people so I’ll have a few myself if it doesn’t taste COMPLETELY like crap. The more you drink beer and find the right kind that appeals to you, the more you’ll get used to it and begin to like it [I still don't really like it, I can just tolerate it now] but I know people who are just a fan of beer and love the way it tastes… it’s all a matter of opinion. I drink it to get drunk, personally, not because it tastes good ha ha.

    In general I do not like beer. The taste is not great and it gives me a migraine. But on occasion I don’t mind having one, but only one and it has to be a certain beer. I have been around a lot of people who drink beer and many like it for the taste but most like it to get drunk.

    Depends on the beer. Some are horrible, cheap and taste like crap. Anyone drinking these wants to get drunk so they cannot taste any longer.

    The good stuff well it is enjoyable and you will want to drink it like you drink your Smirnoffs. It depends a little on personal taste so you will have to try different brands until you find one you like.

    I myslf like bocks, (Shiner especially). I will also drink Dos Equis (no limes though) and hefe weizens.

    Obviously both. Anything that contains alcohol can and will abused but there are a plethora of beers enjoyed purely for taste. Everyone’s different and there is no black or white here. Some people truly love the taste (or lack thereof) Bud Light while others can only tolerate beers as black as a moonless night.
    Many of us enjoy beer AND use it to get intoxicated.
    If you don’t like the flavor then don’t force it. It doesn’t raise your social status and is more of a liability to lower it.

    Eh, beer is an acquired taste. Bud light, Miller Lite, Busch light, Keystone are all party throwing beers. They taste like crap, but if you drink enough you’ll get a buzz. Those beers are blah.

    Other beers can be quite exquisite. But yeah people do it for both reasons!

    I’ll drink Bud Light. But for me it was an acquired taste. I drank Miller light at first and got pie yied. lol.. I’ll drink beer any day, any time, now. I love me some Bud Light. Don’t get me wrong I still drink some hard liquors, I love Amaretto Sours. Yummy!!

    people drink beer for both reasons. i prefer to drink it at my favorite sporting events (football and baseball). its the american way

    I really think that it depends on an individual’s personal tastes and the quality of what they are drinking. To some beer tastes like horse pi** but to others it is a truely enjoyable beverage. To some Smirnoff vodka and it’s malt beverages don’t taste great (personally, I think the vodka isn’t smooth and Smirnoff Ice gives me heartburn), but I do enjoy Greygoose (another kind of vodka) with tonic water. I personally do not enjoy domestic beers with the exception of Amber Bock. Usually, if I feel like having a beer I stick with Newcastle, Nimbus, or Warstiener. Those are MY personal favorites.
    Typically, if out for drinks with friends, I find myself enjoying a dirty Saphirre Martini. That would be my personal favorite.

    As far as people’s personal motives as to why they drink beer…it is probably a little of both. Some do drink it to get intoxicated and some drink it because they enjoy it.

    Do some research on the different types of beer or maybe even try visiting a brewery…you might be surprised at the different types of beer out there. You might even find a beer that you like.
