Someone told me oxycontin is one of the most harmful drugs to take, quality worse than black tar heroin?

My friend is a black addict,
he says (??) “Black is a more pure, cleaner and cheaper high, oxycontin has so many added chemicals that its the worst pill you can take and its completely dangerous, compared to black tar heroin”

now im not saying i beleive him. I know Black tar is not a multivitamin compared to Oxycontin.
Could anyone shed some light on the topic?
Thank you all for your answers,I greatly appreciate it.

It’s an opiate type narcotic, so of course it is dangerous, but if you take it as prescribed, then it shouldn’t be dangerous. I took it a few times for severe back pain, and it worked fine, with no problems. The problem is some of them are time released, and people will cut the pills in half, which could result in an overdose. Taking any opiate is dangerous because it can supress the nervous system, and cause labored breathing, unconsciousness, or coma, but again, if you are getting it legally, your doctor will make sure your on the right dose for the correct amount of time. It IS addictive, but if you are weaned off of it, the effects will be far less.

How about this: Don’t listen to drug addicts?

The simple answer is your friend is completely wrong. Firstly, any drug from heroin to cocaine on the street is not pharmaceutical quality (aside from prescription drugs on the street). That fact alone makes oxycodone a much safer drug. If I take 10 mg of oxycodone I know there will be exactly 10 mg and it will have been made in a legitamite facility.

Heroin is certainly a cheaper drug compared to oxycodone but cheap and good are not the same thing.

The other thing is the oxycodone in any form (OxyContin, OxyIR) consists of the opioid oxycodone and inert fillers. There are no added chemicals or anything. If they did add a bunch of bad chemicals they would have to put in on their label.

Black Tar Heroin primarily consists of Monoacetylmorphine (6-MAM), a highly active metabolite of heroin. Heroin is in fact a prodrug meaning that heroin has no significant chemical actions but after injection (or other method), the heroin will turn in the morphine and 6-MAM (and a few other things).

And back tar is not really heroin for the most part. It is mostly 6-MAM which along with morphine is what makes heroin euphoric. If 6-MAM consists of 50% of the product, a very large amount, the rest is more/less junk. Black tar actually has a massive amount of byproducts, dilutents, and other rubbish. It is just a misconception almost every user has about the “purity” of black tar.

Pure heroin is a nonthreatening fine white power, something black tar certainly does not look like.

The “best” heroin is probably found in The UK were heroin, under the name diamorphine, is commonly used as a pain medication much in the same way IV morphine is used in other countries. So if you are taken by ambulance to hospital after a car accident you have get pure high quality, pharmaceutical grade heroin.

I have chronic pain and I take morphine (MS Contin) and if needed, I take up to 30 mg of oxycodone (OxyIR). I would not take oxycodone if I thought it was a horrible drug with many contaminates. The only thing bad about oxycodone is that unfortunately it is destroyed many lives through addiction. But for the majority of us who don’t abuse it there is little problem.

Your “friend” is in total denial about his black addiction. His addiction is far worse; lung damage and no reliable dosage (which can allow for an OD very easily). You never know what you’re going to get, and yes, the s**t has other crap in it– it’s far from “pure”. It’s cheaper than oxy for a reason.
On the other hand, with oxycontin at least you know what dose you are taking and your lungs won’t crap out on you.
Both drugs are dangerous; black is the worst, by far.
The other answer was right. “You’re listening to a drug addict?” An addict’s mind is always under the influence of the drug, including his or her judgment.

Im not all that familiar with heroin but I would say all the other answers are correct- there’s no way of knowing how potent street heroin is. It could contain a lot of filler one time and be extremely pure the next causing an overdose. I AM familiar with OxyContin. Ive been taking it for several years due to a back injury resulting in spinal fusion surgery. The only way Oxy’s “could” be dangerous is if you are abusing them like crushing and snorting, chewing them up, or shooting them. The fillers and binders DO become dangerous when shooting them especially if the method of straining the solution is not very good. The fillers and binders, I am told, are something similar to talc and will become attached to the inside of your vein over time. As the blockage becomes larger it will break off and travel through your blood stream until it reaches your heart or brain. But….. if you’re using Oxy’s AS PRESCRIBED, you’ve got nothing like that to worry about. If not, you’re taking your life in your hands and subject yourself to dangerous practices regularly anyway. I wouldn’t be taking Oxy’s if I didn’t have a prescription for it and I’d never mess with something as dangerous and unpredictable as H.
