I drink much, much water during workouts, and then drink a lot more at meals. Is there such a thing as drinking too much water?

If you are drinking only water and not eating right, then yes drinking too much water can be bad for your body. When it comes to children, drinking too much water can cause serious health problems because their kidneys can only handle so much water.

yes there is, but you have to drink sooo much, like a litre every 5 minutes… and then it can be really dangerous.
but not really if your drinking normal amounts
April 21st, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Yes, you can drink too much water. The regular amount is 8 cups a day, too much more than that and you can actually wash away important nutrients in the body.
April 21st, 2010 at 9:08 pm
About a gallon or more at least. You’ll get a headache from it flooding your brain first.
April 21st, 2010 at 9:57 pm
yes, the symptoms are almost the same as being buzzed as in drinking, it can screw up your electrolytes.
April 21st, 2010 at 10:43 pm
Yes you can. I am not a doctor so I dont know what the technical jargon is for this condition, but has something to do with diluting your system down so far as to actually poison your body. I guess also that if one drank too much water too fast you could also have it back up into your lungs.
It can go to your brain and make it swell up and kill you that way.

the way you drink water is good, in fact if is very healthy to flush out the bad toxins in your body.
they only way to drink to much water is to drink past the point where you are comfortable until you fill up your esophagus (at this point you would be in agonizing pain) and then continue drinking until it went into your lungs and you drowned
April 22nd, 2010 at 1:04 am
Well, water doesn’t really contain anything so it’s okay to drink a lot. Although there was a woman that went to a water drinking contest and died from drinking like 24 gallons (I think) of water. But I’m sure you don’t drink that much…
I hope I’ve helped =P

Drinking too much water will expand your stomach, therefore increasing its size and your appetite. If your workout is about running and marathon style, then you should drink before and after the workout section, never while you do it. This also depends upon where you live in the world and what is your body type, season, diet.

Yeah. You can get water intoxication (poisoning) by drinking too much water. I think its not necessarily that water is bad for you, but its something about it washes too much out of your body, or something about the way water is processed. As you can see, I’m not completely sure how it is, I just know it is. There’s the story of how one radio station was having a water drinking contest, and the person who won the contest ended up dying because of water intoxication. Crazy, I know, but definitely serious stuff.
April 22nd, 2010 at 3:01 am
Yes. There was a contest where you had to hold your wee to win a Wii. Whoever drank the most water without going to the bathroom won and a person died from it. You drink so much your cells basically drown themselves.

yup but u have to drink a ton. there was a woman and she got really thirsty and drank way too much at one time so umm she died.ya creepy..so i wouldnt recommend drinking too much water.
April 22nd, 2010 at 3:33 am
yes, if you drink to much you could possibly die there was a case of this several years ago.
April 22nd, 2010 at 3:56 am
Yes there is such a thing but you would need to chug a great amount in a short period of time. I wouldn’t worry about it.
April 22nd, 2010 at 4:42 am
no, it isn’t bad to drink a lot of water. it’s actually better than drinking other drinks that have a lot of sugars in it, but if you’re constantly drinking water around the time of your meals it will make you full and you’ll start to loose weight which is unhealthy because water can replace other drinks, but it can’t replace the food that you body needs to grow and stay strong and alive. maybe you should cut down at drinking a lot during meals, unless you are drinking and getting a healthy meal also. just make sure you’re eating and not just drinking.

You can overdo anything. Listen to your body. If you are working or playing in a particularly hot or strenuous activity, sip water as you go. Common sense comes into play here.
April 22nd, 2010 at 5:44 am
water is good for you, and your body gets rid of it quickly. if your working out your body sweats it out, if your not doing anything you get rid of it by water vapor in your breath or by urine. but sadly yes there is such a thing, you can kills yourself if you drink gallons after gallons, RIGHT AFTER ANOTHER! but since you get rid of it in many different ways i think that your okay. if your still worried check with your doctor on how muhcu you can drink.
April 22nd, 2010 at 6:21 am
Ah- yes. I know what you are talking about. According to my calculations, many people have! I do not know if you are aware with the “Hold you wee for a wii” contest, but this women drank too much H20 without urination. Her organs and brain cells got flooded, and slowly died.
April 22nd, 2010 at 6:48 am
Definitely yes. Drinking water is necessary especially if you lose a lot during workouts or being in the hot sun.
But, there is a point where drinking too much water too quickly can harm or even kill and individual.
I’d post a link but see that the previous poster has my same link.
Too little or too much…neither is good. Listen to your body, it will tell you what you need.
April 22nd, 2010 at 7:13 am
Yes there is. Although drinking 8 glasses of water a day is good for you, drinking way more can cause you to have an upset stomach. You should also not chug water before intense physical workout. I once read an article in which a girl passed out and died after drinking 2 bottles of water in a short amount of time before doing gymnastics. I hope this helps!
April 22nd, 2010 at 7:30 am
No. Most people actually don’t drink enough. Your body balances out your water levels between urine and sweat. There has only been one person in recorded history to die for a water overdose and hedrank a few gallons in a fewminutes
April 22nd, 2010 at 8:23 am
its better to avoid drinking water while you eat a meal… this dilutes the digestive enzymes and makes it harder to digest your food (makes sense, doesnt it?) so either drink water before a meal, or wait 20 mins after. and it is also advisable not to drink too much water at once, in general… just space it out throughout the day
April 22nd, 2010 at 8:37 am
yes – it’s called water intoxication and you can die from it. It does not happen often, but a few years ago the news had an article about a college student being initiated into a sorority that died after being forced to drink a lot of water.
