Craving alcohol.. not allowed to drink?
So for the last few days I’ve been craving alcohol like mad. My psychiatrist told me I cannot drink for 6 months because he thinks I am dependent on it (I’m a binge drinker) and also I’m on prozac and clonazepam. Does this make me an alcoholic? I just want a drink so badly.. sadly I’m only 16. I was in drug counselling before for weed and alcohol but I never did stop drinking. The last time I drank was about 3 weeks ago.

Sounds like you may be an alcoholic – but only a person can really diagnose themselves.
Some signs of being alcoholic:
Can’t quit drinking once started
blackouts
continuing to drink despite negative consequences
Not being able to stop if a docor has told you to stop
In AA. they encourage people to eat some sweets – that may help with cravings.

Its possible. Addiction sometimes goes hand in hand with Mental Illnesses. My personally experience is with Bipolar and I know I have an addictive personality. Luckily, I have never tried drugs.
Also, alcohol and weed are depressants. Your being treated for depression so, they would make your illness worse. That’s why your doctor doesn’t want you to drink or smoke weed.

Pretty sure you doctor believes you’re an alcoholic-your statement was you binge drink plus you’re craving alcohol…Have you ever considered going to 12 Step Meetings and obtaining a sponsor? The bottom line is if you drink alcohol and it creates any type of problem-even binge drinking then you are an ALCOHOLIC. Sorry I’ve been clean and sober 27 yrs and still remember how hard it is in the beginning. If you need extra support, please e-mail me God Bless Reggie

Yes your an alcoholic. No worries, my advice would be to take up an activity that gives you as much joy as you probably get drinking. For me it was running and squash. The natural endorphins released in your brain while your playing sports and exercising is really what you need. You don’t need alcohol you need an activity. I would definently advice going to group therapy or AA.

Well, being a therapist who works with addicts allow me to be the guy to say unequivocally that YES you do have a drinking problem, and combining that with an Benzo is a recipe for certain disaster.
If you’re craving it then you’re probably going through some DT though by what you wrote it doesn’t seem you’re a daily drinker.
Listen to your psychiatrist and knock the drinking off, the weed too..
You need to touch on the underlying problem of the drinking and sadly being 16 is bad enough. You need some help, and probably a nice stint back in rehab along with a program and some meetings.

you are completely an alcoholic.
youre psychiatris told you not to drink so you probably shouldnt.
it is illegal for you to be drinking. you shouldnt drink and i nor anyone can stop you.
i dont know about your personal life but you should be puting the effort you put into getting high and drunk, into going to schooll and preparing to go to college.
unless you wand to end up like the homeless guy you see on the street asking for money.
alchoholism can ruin your life. good thing your young so there is still hope for you.

If you are craving it that’s a bad sign, but there is probably some underlying issue that you are trying to escape from and the alcohol makes you feel better. How could you psychiatrist tell you that you can’t drink for 6 months your only 16??? Your not supposed to be drinking at all.
