I was majorly drunk last night and drove 26 miles home by myself from the bar. I am ashamed. What should I do?

Don’t turn yourself in, but definitely don’t drive drunk again either. Its just stupid. Call a taxi or a friend to take you home.

You should take it as a lesson learned and not do it again….You may not get so lucky next time.
May 21st, 2010 at 3:10 pm
DO NOT TURN YOURSELF IN!
That’s just stupid. I’ve had two DUIs and they are the biggest pain I’ve ever had in my life. It costs so much money to get your license back, it’s not even funny.
I don’t know why you are even considering this. Tell a priest, not the cops.

Get drunk again tonight and drive to the police station to turn yourself in.
May 21st, 2010 at 4:46 pm
DUH,dont do it again!!!!!
May 21st, 2010 at 5:24 pm
dont do it again, i dont think u should turn yourself in but if u feel guilty its your choice. i would just forget about it

there is no sense in turning yourself in…you have obviously learned the difference from right and wrong here and thats all the point of a punishment is. you should however learn not to be a repeated offender, even if you dont think you will get caught.
May 21st, 2010 at 6:40 pm
Hey Ya screwed up and ya realize it! You didn’t hurt anyone but yourself. Stop beatin yourself up……and make it a point not to let it happen again.

Alcoholics anonymous can help you. A minister could help you. Get help PLEASE, and you should NOT turn yourself in. Get Help!
May 21st, 2010 at 7:03 pm
You are kidding….aren’t you.
If you are ashamed, don’t do that any more. But to turn yourself in, when (and this is an assumption on my part) there was no accident.
Now, if you were involved in an accident, then that’s another matter entirely.
On the other hand, if you keep doing it, you won’t have to anguish over whether or not turn yourself in, you are gona get caught!

it wasnt fair for you to get away with it. get drunk again and show them how you did it and pay your dues. otherwise when your old it will come back to haunt you every nite and you will pay for your mistake over and over again until you die of a heart attack from the stress. This is america, are you a god fearing american or some terrorist with no feelings? do your duty. your fellow countrymen deserve it.

You are lucky nothing happened to you or anybody else. Do not turn yourself in but I would seriously look into your drinking habits if I was you.
May 21st, 2010 at 11:20 pm
You are likely to not be the only one who did this last night. And, you are not the first one to ever do this. It’s good if you feel guilty. That is your punishment– this time. Next time you want to go bar hopping– call a taxi.
Got me?
May 21st, 2010 at 11:43 pm
keep your mouth shut and don’t do it again!
May 22nd, 2010 at 12:12 am
What if they said to you, “Prove it”. You’d look rather silly. You have to turn yourself in while you’re drunk.
May 22nd, 2010 at 12:48 am
I am glad you feel remorse for what you have done. I am also very thankful that no one was harmed during your momentary lapse of common sense. Those are the good things.
The bad thing is you drove drunk. Thousands of people are killed annually because people drink and drive. Children lose parents and parents likewise lose children, due to someone not thinking what the consequences could be and driving while drinking. Take this as a lesson learned and drop to your knees and thank whatever greater power you believe in that everything turned out well. The results could have been tragic.
Please dont drink and drive!

Turn yourself in to a rehab centre or AA immediately. You need help with the alcohol. Do not turn yourself in to the authorities, they are not going to set you in the right direction. They will put you on a watch list and you will end up with tickets up the ying-yang because they won’t be able to charge you with the drunk driving offence after the fact. The fact you know what you did is indefensible is a major step to understanding, confronting and beating this. Good luck.

1st of all why in the heck did you drive 26 miles drunk. 2nd of all where is your head at!! 3rd don’t ever drive drunk. You could of majorly hurt someone or your self.If MAD answers this your had.
May 22nd, 2010 at 1:41 am
look yourself in the mirror and say i will not do that again . and then get the number to a local cab co. in case your in need again. or call a friend. or sleep it off in the back seat and don’t put the keys in the ign. or they can nail you for dui. learn from your mistakes and DON’T DO IT AGAIN.
May 22nd, 2010 at 2:24 am
Yeah, sure. Also, let them know if you didn’t buckle up. That’s a crime too.
May 22nd, 2010 at 3:13 am
dont6 turn your self in or dont go to AA
May 22nd, 2010 at 3:58 am
If nothing happened to anything, reprimand yourself not to do it again and don’t. The next time will mean jail if you’re caught.
May 22nd, 2010 at 4:49 am
if u plan on getting drunk dont drive to where ever u r getting drunk
May 22nd, 2010 at 5:40 am
I would just consider myself lucky that I didn’t get caught or worse, killed someone or myself. Next time designate a driver OR if they do so, take the provided transportation service by the bar itself (a local bar here in Coolidge has such a thing called the “Gallopin’ Goose” since the the name of the bar is the Golden Goose)

If “scare therapy” is your thing you may as well try turning yourself in to the law, but I highly doubt you’d be charged with anything. As an alternate, try your auto insurance agent.
It seems that you recognize that OUI is just not a good idea for you or anyone on the road anywhere near you, so I won’t harp that. Much.
I have two suggestions.
One: learn to pace yourself. Alcohol is a poison, remember?
Take some thought as to how your own body reacts to it.
All of our chemistries are slightly different. Slow down the consumption. Don’t forget to eat. If you’re not ‘faced when it’s time to leave, you’re ahead of the game. For that matter, you may notice that “having drinks at the bar” is safer, less expensive and much more fun than “getting drunk at the bar”. For that matter, solve the whole shebang at a nip and stay home. Works for me.
Two: invest in a pocket Breathalyzer. Seriously. Mine was less than a hundred bucks. Take it with you, but follow the directions.
As a 16 year alcoholic who has spent no small time in various 12 step groups (AA can work) and had two alcohol-related traffic accidents (both single car, thank goodness), I’ve become well aware that a vehicle can change to a weapon obscenely fast. I turn my keys over to someone I trust until my BAC is .02 or below (.08 is the legal limit in this state) because I have no interest in finding out how much fun it would be to kill or injure a totally innocent unsuspecting person, persons or family.
Lot of little kids out there in minivans this time of year.
I’d rather not meet them in a courtroom. Or you, for that matter.
May 22nd, 2010 at 6:41 am
First I would suggest that you get down on your knees and thank God for guiding you home and people on the road safe last night. And while you’re at it ask Him to give you more wisdom to know better next time.
Turning yourself in, I’m pretty sure they won’t pat you on the back. While being remorseful, promise yourself not to do it again.
Lastly, can I ask you to make this Christmas season safe? Thanks!
May 22nd, 2010 at 7:30 am
yes you should turn yourself in because the cops will take it easier on you and what if you kill some one or hurt them badly
May 22nd, 2010 at 7:42 am
you’re lucky because you drove an entire 26 miles without getting caught but don’t turn yourself in just call a friend next time and be happy you didn’t get hurt
May 22nd, 2010 at 8:31 am
Never go to any place again that has alcohol without a designated driver.
Do not turn yourself in, but don’t make any more mistakes. You got lucky last night but you could have easily caused an accident and killed yourself or others.
May 22nd, 2010 at 8:37 am
Please forgive Me for this But that was a stupid move, do some soul searching my friend, you risked Not only Your Valuable life but the lives of other Innocent people out there.
Just be happy that you don’t have to live the rest of Your life with the regret of wiping out an innocent family.
It’s all ready dangerous enough driving when we’re sober.
Don’t turn your self in ,Just learn from it.
May 22nd, 2010 at 9:22 am
Learn from your mistakes and have the maturity not to do it again.
May 22nd, 2010 at 9:49 am
. Consider it a freebee, you got home, no one is the wiser, next time things could be much much worse. I wouldn’t turn yourself in, but if it makes you feel better, tell your parents or at least your best freind, then use better judgement in the future. Good Luck!!!
May 22nd, 2010 at 10:45 am
If you didnt cause any trouble dont turn yourself but make sure you learned your lesson and dont do it again.
