Alcoholics Anonymous?

Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, ‘My name is Bob, and I am an alcoholic?
I AM NOT A FRIGGIN ALCOHOLIC!!!!!
AND DON’T GIVE ME A SMART-ASS REPLY SAYING “Overcoming denial is the first step”!!!!!

    While I am not a member, i do know people who have belonged to AA with great success, by the way. You give only your first name but not your last name. All of the contents of the meeting are not to be discussed outside of the meeting room. You do not tell anyone else who is there. You all are there to get support and to stop drinking. People would not come if they thought that it would be all over their city that they were attending AA. The same goes with Alanon – which is the program for spouses who are living with an alcoholic. They follow the same guidelines as does the AA chapters. It is a wonderful program, both AA and Alanon as well as Alateen. One has to keep going to get that extra support to quit drinking and it is also nice to have a sponsor who is someone that has been in AA for a long time. A sponsor is someone you can call if you have the urge to drink. They also will help you through the twelve steps of the program. Good luck if you are atteneding. You have made a wonderful first step.
