what kind of alcoholic beverage should I buy as a gift for my friend?

Question by summer-night-dream: what kind of alcoholic beverage should I buy as a gift for my friend?
I will visit his house and he is a lawyer at the age of 40. I just thought of buying a bottle of drink from the duty free shop at the airport. Any suggestions? Whiskey maybe? Please recommend me some brands and type of alcoholic beverage that is not very expensive. Thanks!
no wine suggestions please, he doesn’t like wine.

There are some lovely red wines in widely varying prices. Italian reds are my personal favourite but the chilean merlot is also very fine.

Spirits such as brandy and whisky make good gifts but it really depends on your budget, which you should get. With whisky try to buy a single malt. Either Scottish or Irish, rather than bourbon.

If he likes eggnog why not gift him with a spirited holiday beverage that you made yourself? I’ve gifted many, many people over the years with my own personal recipe and every year they ask for more!
